I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw through our reporting that the new average tip amount for car guards and petrol attendants is R30!!!
Do you know what this means?
The average tip for petrol attendants and car guards has reached R30 for the first time. This signifies a growing recognition of the essential services these workers provide daily.
Historically, tipping practices in South Africa have varied. In 2016, a BusinessTech poll revealed that 70% of respondents tipped car guards between R2 and R5, with only 5% giving R10 or more.
Similarly, petrol attendants often received R5 to R10, depending on the services rendered, such as cleaning windows or checking tyre pressure.
The increase to an average of R30 indicates a significant cultural shift. It reflects a deeper appreciation for these individuals' roles in our daily lives, often under challenging conditions. This change also aligns with broader societal movements towards acknowledging and compensating service workers fairly.
This development is SO motivating! It underscores the importance of platforms that facilitate seamless and secure tipping, ensuring that appreciation translates into tangible support for service workers.
As South Africa embraces digital solutions, we will remain committed to empowering patrons and service providers.
