The Quiet Kind of Giving: A Reflection on Easter and Everyday Charity

Easter reminds me that charity doesn’t need a spotlight.

At its core, Easter tells the story of someone who gave everything out of love. In the Christian tradition, Jesus sacrificed himself to bring hope, forgiveness, and renewal, which is considered to be the biggest act of service in our faith.

Whether you follow Christianity or not, I believe the meaning behind Easter is still one that can resonate with a wider audience.

This time of year brings many of us back to family. To slow down and show up for others in quiet, thoughtful ways. For example, my daughter and I took the time to create a perfectly imperfect cake - it did collapse and need reinforcements, but the best things often need iteration in any case😉

I also shared a lovely lunch with my friend, Nadine Johnson, which was a great opportunity to connect and slow down during this time.

Charity, when it comes from the right place, doesn’t ask for anything in return. It’s not performative. It’s not loud. And it doesn’t chase approval.

It’s in small acts, shared meals, making that phone call, neighbourly favours and the helping hand that expects nothing back.

That’s the kind of giving that stays with people, and I think matters most.

Wishing you a peaceful Easter - however you choose to spend it.
