What Started with a Question Became a Movement

Do you know that May marked six years with tipped?

Six years ago, a simple idea began to take shape - born from curiosity and a question: What if we could build a digital ecosystem that lets people tip informal service providers without needing cash? And what if it could become something even more meaningful?

We’ve knocked on doors, sat in countless meetings, celebrated small wins, and weathered quiet seasons. From testing out the very first version to launching full pilots, partnering with organisations like Sasol, and watching people use tipped in real life - it’s been nothing short of surreal.

And somehow, even after all this time, the vision keeps getting bigger. Every conversation we have, every tip that gets sent, every story we hear pushes us forward. It reminds us that financial inclusion can look different. It reminds us that tech can be deeply human when built with care.

There’s still so much we want to do. But today, I’m just taking a moment to reflect on how far we’ve come and to thank everyone who’s believed in us along the way.
